Dakota is a calm, happy dog today, and his owner Linda credits the quick action of the Waterboro Fire Department in Waterboro, Maine.
The Golden Retriever wandered outside – something his owner says he usually does to sleep under the deck – but when a neighbour alerted Linda, she saw Dakota halfway through the icy water on Little Ossipee Lake.

Luckily the lake was only three feet deep where he fell in, but the dog was too fatigued to climb out onto the slippery ice.
Fire fighters equipped with ice rescue suits were called in to help, and Dakota was pulled to safety.
Linda believes there is a good lesson for everyone to take from Dakota’s mishap. “It’s a reminder for everybody that the ice is not safe!”
