VANCOUVER- A post-World War II mortar shell was safely removed from Stanley Park by the Vancouver police bomb squad Thursday afternoon.
Part of Stanley Park near the HMCS Discovery was closed as police examined a 3-inch by 14-inch shell that appeared to have been buried for a long time.
Police plan to dispose of the device at a secure facility in Chilliwack.
“An explosive device can cause serious injuries or death if not handled properly,” says VPD spokesperson Sergeant Randy Fincham in a statement. “Anyone who finds an explosive device should not touch it and call their local police who will arrange to have the device properly disposed of.”
