LETHBRIDGE, Alta. – A retired policeman in southern Alberta has been charged with multiple weapons-related charges as part of an ongoing operation.
In June 2010, Calgary police laid 104 weapons-related charges and seized 16 firearms, including a machine gun, and charged four people.

The investigation into the source of the weapons led to warrants being served at three locations and a vehicle in and around Lethbridge, Alta., on Wednesday.
Daniel Francis Bennett, who is 63, of Lethbridge, has been charged with nine counts of weapons trafficking.
Lethbridge police confirmed Bennett was a member of their force until he retired in 2001.
Ten handguns were seized during the execution of the warrants, but charges have not been laid in relation to those firearms.
