TLC@Home delivers early Christmas for Saskatoon students

Watch above: ‘Touching Lives of Children at Home’ is into its ninth year and received a boost from Santa himself today. Aaron Streck takes a look at delivery one of five in the program that aims to ensure all children receive a little something this holiday season.

SASKATOON – He isn’t expected to come down the chimney for a few more weeks but jolly old Saint Nicholas surprised the kindergarten class at Saskatoon’s St. Michael Community School Monday. It might only be the first of December but Santa Claus had some gifts to help give out.

Donated gifts inside the boxes prompted smiles from ear to ear on the kids’ faces. Thanks to TLC@Home, touching the lives of these children officially began with the first delivery of the week.

“Today makes it all worthwhile, all the prep, all the running around and the hecticness, the smiles that’s what it’s all about and does your heart good,” said Shelley James, TLC@Home co-founder.

“Just seeing the children and their excitement on their face that’s literally the best part,” said Santa.

This is the campaign’s ninth year making the holidays brighter for kids who might otherwise not get a gift.

“We don’t just like writing cheques, we can do that and that’s important but we like to roll up our sleeves as a team. We got together put some boxes together for the kids, I think we had as much fun putting them together as the kids did opening them,” said Cameco CEO Tim Gitzel.

Five community schools will benefit from the community’s generosity this year. TLC@Home visited four in the Bridge City last year.

“It’s wonderful being in an area where everyone’s so caring. It was an open ended dream and it still is. So exciting to see where it’s going to go from here,” said James.

TLC@Home will be stopping by the other four schools in the coming days.
