SASKATOON – TLC@Home is looking to touch the lives of children in Saskatoon one shoe box at a time. The initiative was started by Hairstyle Inn in 2006 and has since grown in partnership with Global News, Cameco and most recently, 96.3 Cruz FM.

“It’s just such a great program that gives back to our city and stays right here in Saskatoon which is super important to us being a local radio station,” said Zoe Vassos, Cruz FM promotions and marketing director

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

“We want make sure that everything stays right here in Saskatoon and gives every kid a chance to have that awesome experience at Christmas and be able to open that toy.”

To help with the initiative, 96.3 Cruz FM has hopped on board and will be hosting ‘Saskatoon Greatest Gifts for Kids Radiothon” Nov. 29 at Lawson Heights Mall. The crew from Cruz will be on location beside Santa’s photo booth from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. taking donations of unwrapped toys.

“Anything that will fit in a show box. Barbies are great, anything like Hot Wheels, coloring books, stuffed animals, anything along those lines,” said Vassos.

The toys will then be placed in age appropriate shoe boxes and delivered to five inner-city elementary schools.

Jonathon Huntington has been a part of TLC@Home for years and says seeing the children’s faces on distribution day is a major highlight.

“It’s absolutely spectacular to see the looks on the kids faces when you go into the school and they’re wanting and sitting so nicely waiting for their Christmas shoeboxes to come”, said Huntington, who is the community investment manager at Cameco.

People are encouraged to stop by Lawson Heights Mall with a brand new unwrapped toy on Saturday. Distribution day will be taking place next week.
