Vancouver has big celebration for Grey Cup, but falls short of sellout

WATCH: Thousands of people are watching the Hamilton Tiger-Cats take on the Calgary Stampeders. And as Jennifer Palma reports, it marks the wrap of a wild weekend of festivities in the city.

VANCOUVER — A slow start to festivities gave way to a raucous weekend at “Roar on the Shore,” otherwise known as the 102nd Grey Cup.

“You get people from all over the country already waving, shaking hands. You see so much excitement. That’s the great thing. You’ve got every colour of the rainbow jersey out there, but everyone’s high-fiving each other because we all love the CFL,” said former BC Lion Angus Reid.

At the beginning of the week, ticket sales to the big game were down, with around 6,500 tickets still available. But many of them were selling quickly at highly-discounted rates, according to ticket broker Mario Livich, and empty seats were hard to be found during the game.

In the end, the game was not a sellout – while the final attendance was announced at 52,056, it meant 1,423 tickets went unsold.
