Toronto shoppers line up early for Black Friday deals

TORONTO – Sub-zero temperatures in Toronto didn’t deter hundreds of eager shoppers from lining up overnight for Black Friday deals.

Several dozen people spent the better part of the early morning hours camped outside Toronto’s Eaton Centre to get their hands on bargain basement goods and a chance to win gift cards.

“I’m out here waiting to get inside H&M. I’m pretty excited. I’m stoked,” said Jonathan Zenzano. “Hopefully get that few hundred dollar discount.”

Julia Faria spent the night with a friend to get an early jump on holiday shopping.

“Been waiting for about four hours. We’re shopping for each other,” Faria said. “I’ll buy his presents, he’ll buy mine.”

The practice of offering deep discounts a day after U.S. Thanksgiving has spread north of the border in recent years, with many stores opening early to lure shoppers.
