SASKATOON – A litter of puppies, feared to have been left in the cold, have been found safe and well. Saskatoon SPCA said they were located with their owner.

Someone found the mother dog at the corner of Idylwyld Drive and 33rd Street, dragging a heavy length of chain and a long stake Wednesday, and brought her to the SPCA.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

The shelter said the German Shepherd is nursing and they feared the worst for her pups. Without their mother, they would have little chance of survival outside.

The SPCA hopes the puppies will be reunited with their mother soon, but would not comment on whether or not the German Shepherd is being returned to her owner.

Cathy Brin, volunteer and public relations coordinator for the SPCA, said the shelter received overwhelming support during the search for the puppies.

“We’ve never had so many views on a post as this one. We had a ton of support from the public,” she explained.

“I think our post was shared well over 2,000 times, and viewed by well over 100,000 people. So we’re very happy Saskatoon stepped forward and helped us with this case.”
