CALGARY- It’s a tragic anniversary, 17 years ago Sunday, a Calgary woman was found dead in her southwest home.

Florence Marie Parkkari was found brutally murdered in her bedroom on November 23rd,1997. She was 64 years old.

The 64-year-old’s murder remains unsolved but now new forensic technology and new information has come to light and police say it could be key to help catch her killer.

But now investigators could be searching for someone older.

“We’re looking at number of different individuals that were known to her at the time, that are adults.”

Police won’t give details on exactly how this was discovered but say the cold case is being reexamined following advancements in forensic technology and new information.”

“We’re looking at the old interviews and we’re looking at new information that’s come to light from individuals.”

Police are seeking the public’s help for any information that may assist the investigation.

The anniversary brings back painful for memories for Parkkari’s friend Susan Copley.

Copley has a raggedy Anne Doll which holds a decade of memories for her.

It was lovingly made by her friend Parkkari and at one time sold in Copley’s store.

“She was the most delightful person you would ever want to meet. She was always happy, always smiling, and just as gentle as could be,” Copley said.

The scene, not easily forgotten by neighbors.

“You knew it was bad,” Kelly Pratt said. “All of a sudden the police are there and there’s investigations and the tape starts coming out, so you know something’s up.”

For Copely, despite 17 years passing, there’s still the lingering question of why her friend was killed and the hope one day that will be answered.

“It would be a good thing to know and to know enough people had liked Marie and had thought of her enough to find the person that did this.”

For investigative reasons, the cause of Parkkari’s death is not being released.
