EDMONTON — The snow has arrived in the Capital Region, as promised.
Upwards of five centimetres of snow is expected to accumulate in the area Saturday. Environment Canada issued snowfall warnings for much of central and northern Alberta, but by Saturday evening most of the warnings were dropped.
“We’ll get some blowing snow in there with those winds gusting about 40 kilometres per hour,” Global Edmonton weather specialist Kevin O’Connell said of Saturday’s forecast.

With wet conditions Friday night and the drop in temperature Saturday, several area highways were listed as partly or completely covered in snow and ice.

O’Connell says the snow will die down into Sunday, with a high of -3°C expected in the afternoon. The winds will also weaken overnight.
“We will see some sunshine as we head into tomorrow (Sunday),” said O’Connell. “Monday doesn’t look bad, we’ll get some sunshine, we’ll get some warm air.”

Temperatures are expected to drop by Tuesday, though, and remain below average for the rest of the week.
