Alcohol considered factor in fatal Saskatchewan crash

KAWACATOOSE FIRST NATION, Sask. – One person is dead after a crash Monday evening in Saskatchewan and Mounties believe alcohol was a factor.

Punnichy RCMP were initially called out to the Kawacatoose First Nation just after 6:30 p.m. following a complaint of two impaired drivers.

While on their way, word came of a crash between two vehicles west of the location of the impaired driving complaint.

Police say a westbound Pontiac Grand Prix lost control on a curve and slid into an eastbound Chevrolet Cavalier.

The driver of the Grand Prix, a 38-year-old man from Saskatoon, was declared dead at the scene.

His name has not been released.

The driver of the Cavalier, a 43-year-old man from Leoville, was taken to hospital in Wynyard with undetermined injuries.

A 36-year-old man from Kawacatoose First Nation, who was driving a westbound pickup truck that was not involved in the crash, was arrested at the scene. He has been remanded in custody.

Mounties continue to investigate with the assistance of a collision analyst.
