MONTREAL — Wondering what gets Canadians talking? If you thought hockey, think again. According to a recent survey by the Canadian Automobile Association (CAA), talking about gas prices is way more interesting.

“Yes, the price of gasoline is even more popular than hockey,” Jeff Walker, vice-president of public affairs of the national office of the CAA, said in a statement.

“This proves how Canadians are interested in the topic.”

Conversations about price fluctuations have been a particularly hot subject this year, especially with the drop in prices.

According to the CAA, in some Canadian cities, the price at the pump plummeted by 3 to 5 cents a litre in the last week alone, with a drop of 4 cents per litre in Calgary, 3 cents per litre in Montreal and 5 cents per litre in Toronto.

The average price at the pump across Canada is $1.15 on Nov. 18, according to the company’s gas price watch website.

To conduct the survey, the CAA has asked Canadians to rank various topics of conversation according to their popularity, and what we like to talk about apparently ranges from family to personal problems to local news.
