The Calgary Police Service Arson Unit has charged a 35-year-old man in connection with an apartment fire early Wednesday morning.
Firefighters responded to the fire at the 800 block of Glenmore Trail S.W. at about 4 a.m. and managed to knock it down quickly.
The building was evacuated, and one tenant was taken to hospital with minor smoke inhalation.
Total damage is estimated at $200,000.
Arson Unit investigators believe the fire was deliberately set to an apartment belonging to a woman living in the building.
Orrie Dewhyte HEWSON has been charged with arson – threat to human life, and two counts of arson – damage to property.
He will next appear in court on Monday, Nov. 17, 2014.
