EDMONTON — The Salvation Army kicked off its Christmas kettle campaign on Wednesday in St. Albert.

The kettles will be set up at shopping malls and grocery stores around the region from November 14 until Christmas Eve. You can also donate online.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

This year’s goal is to collect $300,000. The same goal last year was exceeded by $26,000.

The money will go towards helping vulnerable residents throughout the year. And Salvation Army officer Peter Kim says every bit of change helps.

“Funds go to help people who are homeless, people in need of food…who are in transition in their life. We also help with programming for children, tots, for youth and for seniors as well.”

If you’d like to volunteer your time, contact the Salvation Army.
