TORONTO – Toronto Public Health is recommending a number of suicide prevention measures for the city’s subway system.
Toronto Transit Commission officials confirm that there were three suicide attempts and one fatality between 7 p.m. Monday and 11 a.m. Tuesday.
The incidents shut down parts of the subway lines for a combined 225 minutes.
Public health officials recently released a report titled “Suicide Prevention in Toronto” recommending more outreach programs and even installing doors at platform edges that only open when the train rolls into the station.
The board of health will consider the new report at a meeting next Monday.
