Toronto-based designer Arthur Mendonça launched his namesake
collection in 2002.
Greeted with acclaimed enthusiasm on the Canadian fashion scene, the Ryerson
University graduate has shown his collections in Sao Paulo, London, Montreal,
Los Angeles and New York.
Known for its bold and feminine elegance, Mendonça’s use of luxurious
fabrics in razor sharp tuxedos, must-have high-waist pants and
safari-like blazers for the woman have won over with audiences around the
world.
Arthur Mendonça has been featured on the glossy pages of Glamour, InStyle,
Marie Claire and Elle. Mendonça has won several awards, including the Design
Exchange Gold Award by The National Post, the Arts & Culture Award by COPA
as well as the New Designer Award by Style Magazine (2004).

More recently,
Arthur Mendonça himself has made an appearance as a guest judge on ‘Project
Runway Canada’ hosted by supermodel, Iman.
With its striking
silhouettes and use of rich colours, the Arthur Mendonça label has been
worn by several well-known celebrities,
including fellow Canadian Nelly Furtado, Rihanna, Mischa Barton, Paris Hilton
and Maria Bello.
Mendonça is presenting on the LG Fashion Week runway on Monday October 17 at
8:30 pm. This season marks Mendonça’s first return to the Fashion Week catwalk since
relaunching his business, which had closed up shop in 2008. For his spring/summer 2012 collection, Arthur Mendonça drew
inspiration from Cleopatra-embodied by Elizabeth Taylor in the iconic 1963
film.
“It’s
always great energy: the makeup and hair and the models and seeing
everything come together, the whole look of the collection,” he said in a
recent interview. “For me, because I have my board up on the wall with
all my sketches, it’s kind of like they come to life.”
