HALIFAX -A Nova Scotia man who’s been missing for almost two weeks shaved his beard before getting on a ferry to Newfoundland in North Sydney, according to his son-in-law.
James Cuthbert, 71, has been missing since Oct. 26. After leaving his home that morning, he was last seen in the Dartmouth Crossing business park around 1 p.m.
Halifax police say they found the white Toyota Prius belonging to Cuthbert in North Sydney, Cape Breton on Thursday.
They say they believe Cuthbert boarded a ferry to Port aux Basques, N.L. for an 11:45 p.m. crossing on the same day he went missing.
On Friday afternoon, Cuthbert’s son-in-law Tom Martin said at a news conference that Cuthbert shaved off his beard between the time he was in Dartmouth and when he arrived at the ferry terminal.
Martin also said Cuthbert left his car keys in his vehicle.
Halifax Regional Police spokesperson Theresa Rath said there is no evidence to suggest Cuthbert met with foul play.

Police in Halifax are working with local police and RCMP in Cape Breton and Newfoundland to investigate the case.
Marine Atlantic says it is reviewing surveillance footage from the ferry to look for clues.
Volunteers in the Halifax area had been helping in the search for Cuthbert, who is from Head of Jeddore, N.S.
He is described by police as white, six feet tall, 170 pounds, slightly balding with brown hair, hazel eyes, rimless glasses and a neat appearance. The description also mentioned that he had a white beard, which might no longer be the case.
Investigators are asking anybody who could have seen him on the ferry to contact police or submit an anonymous tip to Crime Stoppers.
