Three flu-related deaths in Alberta so far

Alberta Health Services says there have been three flu-related deaths so far this season.

In it’s first update of the season, AHS reports one of the victims was from the South zone, and the other two in Edmonton.

No other details about the victims have been made public.

In addition, AHS says 30 people have been hospitalized with the flu – 3 in Calgary, 4 in the South and 17 in Edmonton.

So far, 396,992 doses of flu vaccine have been administered – 54,436 in Calgary, 17,016 in South and 70, 321 in Edmonton, according to the AHS update.

The Public Health Agency of Canada is also reporting the A(H3N2) strain is the most common type of influenza affecting Canadians.

Last year, more than 1,200 Alberta were hospitalized with the flu, and 30 people died.

27% of the population was immunized.
