Gas leak in Vancouver shuts part of Cambie Street

VANCOUVER – A section of Cambie Street in Vancouver, near the Olympic Village, is currently closed due to a gas leak.

Vancouver Fire Rescue were first called around 7:15 a.m. to investigate a strong smell of gas.

Fortis BC is on scene as well and firefighters evacuated several buildings, including Save On Foods and Home Depot.

The Vancouver Police Department is on scene to control traffic. People are asked to avoid the area if possible.

West 8 Avenue is still closed between Cambie Street and Yukon street but Cambie Street is now open.
