Philippine government looking into Manila airport terminal’s structural flaws

MANILA, Philippines – A senior Philippine official says studies have found structural flaws in Manila’s newest airport terminal.

Transportation and Communication Secretary Manuel Roxas II said Friday this was the general conclusion of three internationally recognized engineering entities that examined Ninoy Aquino International Airport’s Terminal 3.

He says they had different assessments of the seriousness of the flaws at the terminal which was finished in 2002 and started being used in 2008.

He says one saw only slight defects that can be fixed, another said it’s more serious and the third believes it’s “very serious.”

The terminal’s Japanese builder Takenaka Corp. maintains it has no defect.

Roxas says the government has taken measures to ensure passenger safety.
