Saskatoon Health Region CEO leaving post

Saskatoon Regional Health Authority asks health region CEO to step down; Maura Davies leaving position Dec. 1. File / Global News

SASKATOON – The president and CEO of the Saskatoon Health Region (SHR) is stepping down.

Maura Davies will be leaving her position on Dec. 1 after being asked to step down by the Saskatoon Regional Health Authority (SRHA).

The SRHA said now was an appropriate time to begin a leadership change after Davies indicated two years ago she was nearing retirement.

“The SRHA felt we needed long-term leadership in place well into the future, given the important projects we are undertaking, such as construction of the Children’s Hospital of Saskatchewan and Saskatchewan Health-Care Management System,” said Jim Rhode, chair of the SRHA.

“For all things there is a season. For me, that means it is time to pass the torch and, at the request of the authority, complete my time as president and CEO of the Saskatoon Health Region,” stated Davies.

Davies was asked to stay on in a continuing role with the region, but declined the opportunity.

“Maura has demonstrated tremendous passion and leadership on quality improvement and other strategic initiatives within the Saskatoon Health Region and she has served the residents well,” said Rhode.

“We wanted her to continue on in some role within that system.”

Davies said she is honoured to have served the largest health region in the province.

I am proud of the gains we have made in achieving better health for our communities, better care, better value for the taxpayer dollars invested in our services, and better teams,” said Davies.

“I have been privileged to be part of developing and implementing the province’s Lean management system and believe that our region and province are building the foundation for a better health system that will serve as a model for the entire country.”

The search is now on for a new president and CEO.

“We will be looking for a leader who is as passionate and committed to high-quality, safe patient care and our Lean-based management system as Maura Davies has been,” said Rhode.

If a new CEO is not in place by Dec. 1, the SHRA plans to name an interim CEO from the region’s senior leadership team.
