KELOWNA — Fire forced the evacuation of a Kelowna downtown business early Thursday.
Smoke began to fill Roy’s Shoes, Boots & Repairs on Ellis Street at around 8 a.m..

Owner Jim Belshaw says a stranger alerted him that his business was on fire.
“I was cleaning the sidewalk and a stranger came up and yelled: ‘Get out, get out, there’s a fire.'”
Belshaw says he just redecorated the place and believes the cause was electrical.
One employee was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation.
Damage was mostly limited to smoke.
