UPDATE: Motorist dies following fiery crash north of Edmonton

EDMONTON — One man is dead following a fiery two-vehicle collision north of Edmonton Friday night.

Morinville RCMP, EMS and Sturgeon County Fire and Rescue Departments were called to the collision on Highway 28, near the Highway 803 intersection, shortly after 11:30 p.m. Friday.

Police say a southbound pickup truck collided with a northbound semi-truck, causing the pickup to catch on fire.

The male driver of the pickup was pulled from the vehicle by a witness at the scene. RCMP say the driver was taken to hospital with serious, life-threatening injuries. RCMP were told at 9:30 Saturday morning the man had died in hospital.

The male driver of the semi was pulled from the truck by Fire and Rescue crews. He suffered serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.

Morinville RCMP and a collision analyst continue to investigate the cause.

The name of the victim will not be released.
