FREDERICTON – Members of New Brunswick’s New Democratic Party have launched an effort to convince Dominic Cardy to remain as their leader and run in the Saint John East byelection.
Kelly Lamrock, who ran as an NDP candidate in Fredericton in last month’s provincial election, says there is a growing number of former candidates and party members who are calling on Cardy to run.

The NDP failed to win any seats in the provincial election, and Cardy announced on election night that he would resign once a leadership convention is held.
Cardy has yet to comment, but Lamrock says he expects Cardy will listen to the overwhelming support from party members.
The Saint John East seat became vacant this week when Liberal Gary Keating quit prior to being sworn in as a member of the legislature, citing health and family reasons.
