EDMONTON – A worker is in hospital after a fire erupted in an empty crude tank at the Husky Energy terminal in Hardisty Wednesday.
Fire crews responded and operations have temporarily been shut down at Hardisty Tank Farm as a precaution. All workers have also been evacuated.
Occupational Health and Safety is investigating the incident. Early reports suggest that work was being carried out by a subcontractor company called Davco., which involved cleaning a tank used to store hydrocarbons.
According to county officials, a state of local emergency in the M.D. of Provost has not been declared as of 2 p.m. “due to the present containment and localization of the situation.”
However, all residents in the area are asked to stay away from the area so that emergency personnel can properly do their jobs.
