BC forestry student’s disappearance remains unsolved

VANCOUVER – Two decades ago, a forestry student came home for Thanksgiving weekend. But then, she vanished.

Lana Derrick was 19 years old when she disappeared in 1995. She was attending Northwest Community College in Houston, but came home to visit her family in Terrace that weekend.

On Oct. 6, 1995, she was given a ride from school to Terrace. Lana spent the night partying with friends and was last seen at 3:30 a.m. at her cousin’s house at 4456 Lakelse Avenue.

Among the various downtown Terrace locations Lana was known to have visited before she went missing, are Gigi’s Pub and the local Tim Hortons.

For her mother, every day Lana is missing is heartbreaking.

“There’s a lot of pain,” said her mom. “Sometimes I just sit here and see her coming running up here like she usually does. Every morning [I] sit here, every night we come home and nothing. She won’t be here.”
