WATCH: Logging safety in the spotlight in Vernon

VERNON – B.C.’s forest safety ombudsman was in Vernon Thursday to talk about safety in the logging industry, which he believes will be always be part of B.C.’s economic base.

“I think it has made huge strides. That is the most important message I have to say is it has made progress,” says ombudsman Roger Harris. “This is just a little nudge, tap on the shoulder, that says keep an eye on this.”

Thursday’s talk is serving as a reminder not to let up.

“When you start to bring in change into an organization, you usually see everyone is focused on it and as a result you tend to get good results,” says Harris. “But as those results get good you tend to see people start to become a little more… just pay a little less attention because they think it is going well. All of a sudden you start to see it track up.”
