HALIFAX – Halifax police have fined the driver of a car that struck and killed an 81-year-old woman in Halifax last month.
The woman was crossing Williams Lake Road in a marked crosswalk on Sept. 6 when she was struck.
The 73-year-old man driving the vehicle had been attempting a right hand turn on a red light from Williams Lake Road onto Herring Cove Road.
Police say his blood alcohol level was between 50 and 80 milligrams per 100 millilitres, and a half-full bottle of liquor was seized from the vehicle.
The man was issued a ticket for failing to yield to a pedestrian and another for illegally possessing liquor. The tickets carry a total fine of about $640.
