According to an independent poll, 88 per cent of residents who live near the Shaw-Nee Slopes Golf Course are opposed to a controversial plan to rezone the land and build up to 1,600 homes.
The poll also showed 89 per cent of people are “very concerned” about the extra traffic so many new homes would generate in an established neighborhood whose roads are already over-capacity, according to traffic studies.

The poll surveyed residents in the three neighborhoods that would be most directly affected by the change – Evergreen, Shawnee Slopes and Millrise.
“The results make it clear that Calgary’s City Council should unanimously reject the developer’s rezoning application,” says Gloria Dingwall, the President of the Shawnee-Evergreen Community Association. “This development will create huge traffic problems.”
The golf course land is privately owned, but residents are hoping the City will keep the land zoned for recreational use.
The communities are planning a rally between noon and 1:00 p.m. this Sunday at the golf course entrance to voice their opposition to the proposal by Geo Energy.
