Inquest ordered into death of Prince Albert, Sask. teen

PRINCE ALBERT, Sask. – A coroner’s inquest will be held into the death of a Prince Albert, Sask. teen who died in hospital after being in found in medical distress at a youth residence last year.

Dylan LaChance, 16, was taken to the Prince Albert Youth Residence (PAYR) on Sept. 12 after RCMP broke up a fight between several boys outside the high school on the Big River First Nation the previous day.

He was taken to hospital on Sept. 18 after a staff member noticed him in medical distress. LaChance passed away the next day.

LaChance was being held at PAYR while waiting to appear in court on four assault charges.

The inquest, which will be presided over by Brent Gough, is scheduled to last over five days starting Oct. 6 at the Carlton Park Community Centre.

As part of the inquest, the jury can make recommendations to prevent similar deaths in the future.
