TORONTO – John Tory continues to maintain a comfortable lead among his competitors in the Toronto mayoral race, according to a new poll.

A survey conducted by Forum Research on Sept. 29 reveals Tory has stretched his lead to 43 per cent support among decided voters compared to 33 per cent for Doug Ford, and 20 per cent for Olivia Chow.

In contrast to last week’s poll by the same research firm, Tory jumped 5 per cent, Ford is up 2 per cent, and Chow dropped 5 per cent support.

“This is an improvement for John Tory since last week, and it appears Olivia Chow’s resurgence was short‐lived,” said Forum Research President, Dr. Lorne Bozinoff in a media release.

The poll also showed Tory leads in most regions of Toronto except for North York where Ford is ahead (46 per cent versus 39 per cent for Tory) and Scarborough where both are statistically tied.

However, Bozinoff is cautioning voters that much can still chance with a month left in the municipal campaign.

“With basically the length of an entire federal election campaign to go before the election, it’s too early to say either of the two leaders has an insurmountable advantage,” said Bozinoff.

The Forum Research poll was based on an interactive voice response telephone survey of 1202 Toronto respondents with a margin of error of +/- 2.8 per cent, 19 times out of 20.
