HALIFAX – A 20-year old woman was sent to hospital with non-life threatening injuries following a shooting in North Preston on Friday evening.
RCMP said the woman was shot in the arm while walking along Downey Road with a man in his late teens or early twenties. Several shots were fired at the pair and the Mounties said the shooting was not random.
More than ten RCMP and Halifax Regional Police cruisers responded to the scene. Police blocked off a section of Downey Road because shell casings, which were collected for evidence, were on the pavement.
There was also a heavy police presence on nearby Clarence Street, where police cordoned off a section of the road. The Emergency Response Team and K-9 units were also on scene. Police were asking residents to stay in their houses and those returning home were not allowed to walk or drive up the street to their houses.
As of 11 p.m., one house on Clarence Street remained cordoned off and RCMP said they were still waiting for a search warrant related to the shooting.
RCMP said the investigation is still ongoing and no suspects have been apprehended.
