Crash at Grosse Isle sends 1 person to hospital in critical condition

WINNIPEG – A crash on Manitoba Highway 6 at Grosse Isle sent one person to hospital in critical condition on Wednesday morning.

A car was trying to turn south onto Highway 6 from Highway 322 at about 6:15 a.m. when it collided with a jeep headed north, RCMP said in a news release.

The 18-year-old Grosse Isle man who was driving the car was taken to hospital in critical condition. The 26-year-old driver of the jeep and a 49-year-old man in the jeep with him suffered minor injuries.

All three people involved in the crash were wearing seatbelts and alcohol isn’t considered a factor, but distracted driving is being investigated as a possible cause, RCMP said. A forensic collision reconstructionist is helping to investigate the crash.

The highway has reopened.

Grosse Isle is about 30 kilometres northwest of Winnipeg.
