SASKATOON – BHP Billiton announced Friday it will contribute $1 million over four years to the rebuilding of the community hockey rink in the town of LeRoy, Sask.
Residents were devastated when the LeRoy Memorial Arena was destroyed by fire in May 2013.
Officials said the rink has always been the heart of the community and many volunteer hours had been put into the building, renovations and operations of the facility.

Chris Ryder, vice-president of corporate affairs for BHP Billiton, said the company was pleased to support the rebuilding of the rink, which also housed much of the community’s hockey history.
“Our commitment to supporting projects that are important to the communities in which we operate is a big part of BHP Billiton, not just in Saskatchewan, but in all of our operating areas worldwide,” said Ryder.
BHP Billiton’s Jansen potash project is about 11 kilometres from LeRoy.
