MONTREAL — About 40 people protested Saturday afternoon in front of the headquarters of Aéroports de Montréal to demand the organization and the federal government delay for three months the plan to demolish the terminal at Mirabel Airport.

The protesters with the group Sauvons l’aérogare de Mirabel (SAM), planned to deliver a “citizen’s declaration” to ADM.

The event took place in the parking lot of the Marriott Hotel at Pierre Elliot Trudeau International Airport in Dorval.

But at the ADM board of directors’ meeting, scheduled for Tuesday, the name of the company chosen to demolish the terminal is to be revealed.

A call for bids for the demolition was issued on May 1.

SAM’s founder, Robert Charron, directly called on the federal government and Conservative Senator Claude Carignan, who knows the Mirabel area well, having been mayor of neighbouring St-Eustache for almost 10 years.

Emphasizing that the demolition is an option “to be avoided,” he implored the government to “find a new use” for the installations, such as an exposition centre.

Charron said he had no preference for a possible use for the installation.

Last Wednesday, ADM rejected a demand by promoters of an exposition centre who demanded a three-month delay in the demolition process.
