Strategic access ramp in Ste-Anne-de-Bellevue finally reopens

Watch: Ste-Anne-de-Bellevue overpass opens

MONTREAL — After three-and-a-half years, the access ramp to Anciens Combattants Boulevard in Ste-Anne-de-Bellevue is open to traffic.

Mayor Paola Hawa personally removed one of the orange cones and greeted the first car passing through.

The opening means motorists don’t have to use detours on slower roads such as Ste-Marie Street to reach the overpass above A40, and it gives drivers a direct access into the bustling commercial district of Ste-Anne-de-Bellevue.

However, the access ramp will not be in place forever.

The mayor is planning to eventually build a permanent T-intersection to accommodate more traffic.

Of course, all of this is happening in the shadows of the ongoing construction work on the A40.

Transports Quebec is rebuilding a nine kilometre stretch of road between St-Charles Boulevard in Kirkland to the western tip of the island.

That work is scheduled to last until the end of the year.
