WINNIPEG — Once again, frost advisories are likely to pop up in southern Manitoba. Could they include Winnipeg this time?
It’s been cool all week and overnight temperatures have been on a slow and steady decline closer to the freezing mark as the week has gone on.
The last time Winnipeg dipped below 0 C was May 17 (-0.3), for a streak of 117 consecutive days above 0 C. Tonight looks like it will be the coolest for a while, with the forecast low hovering just above the zero mark.
Temperatures will begin to warm up, most notably in the afternoon, once we get into next week.
Coming out of a record-setting cold winter, the streak of 117 is quite similar to the last two years even though the spring/summer of 2012 was full of record-setting heat.
In 2013, Winnipeg was above 0 from May 12 to Sept. 21, and in 2012, the streak went from May 30 to Sept. 14, Environment Canada statistics show.
