“As broadcasters, we have a responsibility to use the power of television to effect change so we jumped at the opportunity to come together with our colleagues for this incredibly worthy cause,” said Phil Piazza, Global’s vice-president of content acquisitions and Global TV programming, in July.

“This dynamic hour of television is an important step in the fight to beat a disease that has touched so many Canadians.”

Stand Up To Cancer was founded by the U.S.-based Entertainment Industry Foundation. It has raised hundreds of millions of dollars since it debuted in 2008.

The special will air at 8pm ET on Global, City, CTV and CBC.
