Missing Quebec woman considered murder victim

A 51-year-old woman who has been missing for more than three years is now the subject of a murder investigation. Police in Longueuil, Que., announced Monday that Diane Gregoire, who disappeared from a South Shore mall parking lot on Jan. 31, 2008, was murdered.

It’s a big break in a case with few leads up to now. The new information stems from a witness who has led police to a pig farm in the St. Hyacinthe region. The SQ have been involved. Some items have been confiscated in raids. Police say they have been sifting through the farm by hand but say it’s a long process.

“We’re looking for pieces of bones, pieces of materials, piece of clothing and so it’s going to take a while to do it. I don’t know the foot square we have to look through.” says Gaetan Durocher of the Longueuil Police Service.

Gregoire’s husband, Paul Laplante, had told police his wife had been shopping at the Promenades St. Bruno mall in St-Bruno-de-Montarville.

He said the couple had arranged to meet later that afternoon, but Gregoire didn’t show up.

There is an incinerator on the property and Durocher did not rule out the possibility that Gregoire’s body may have been incinerated. Police say it has no reason to suspect anyone who worked or managed the farm.
