Man rearrested following deadly downtown shooting

CALGARY – Police have rearrested a man following the shooting death of an innocent bystander on the weekend.

Officers took a man into custody overnight from a home in the 6500 block of Ranchview Drive N.W., and he now faces one charge of reckless use of a firearm.

He is one of three people who were questioned in connection to the shooting on Monday, then released. Police continue to investigate if he played a role in Saturday’s shooting.

Another man remains in custody, as he is wanted on a Canada-wide warrant for an attempted murder in Toronto.

The victim, 26-year-old Natasha Mohamed Farah, was shot after leaving a bar on the corner of 1st Street and 11th Avenue S.W. early Saturday morning.

Farah had moved to Calgary just over a year ago from Toronto, and her family laid her to rest in a cemetery near Cochrane.

Her death is Calgary’s 23rd homicide of the year.

Witnesses who were in the area of 11 Avenue and 1 Street S.W., in the early morning hours of Saturday, Aug. 23, 2014, are encouraged to call police.
