EDMONTON – As the city gets ready to host the World Triathlon Grand Final, some Edmontonians may have to change their daily routine to accommodate the competition.
Several major roadways in and around the river valley will be blocked off to traffic at various points from Friday, August 29 to Monday, September 1.
The greatest number of closures will happen on Saturday, Sunday and Monday. Several roadways, including Groat Road, the High Level Bridge, Saskatchewan Drive and River Valley Road, will be closed much of the morning and afternoon.

In addition to road closures, public swim hours and lane availability are being adjusted at three city pools.

The Queen Elizabeth Outdoor Pool will remain open, but will be hosting training times for athletes participating in the ITU. August 25 to August 31, 8 a.m. to 11 a.m.
Getting around during the World Triathlon Grand Final
All eyes will be on Edmonton from August 26 – September 1, 2014, as theTransCanada Corp. World Triathlon Grand Final comes to William Hawrelak Park. This highly prestigious, international event is the final stop on the ITU World Triathlon series in which several world championship titles will be awarded.
Road Closures and Detours
A number of road closures will be in effect from Friday, August 29 to Monday, September 1 to ensure the safety of competitors, volunteers and spectators. Major travel delays can be expected in the areas southwest of the downtown and the University of Alberta. Motorists are urged to plan ahead to avoid driving delays. Use Whitemud Drive, Anthony Henday Drive, Low Level Bridge, James MacDonald Bridge, and 107 Avenue as alternate routes.

There are two FREE shuttles running to and from Hawrelak Park during the event. When departing from Hawrelak Park, shuttle riders must take the same shuttle circuit they arrived on to ensure they return to the same shuttle stop from which they left.

Parking is not available at Hawrelak Park. Paid spectator parking is available at the University of Alberta, Windsor, Stadium, and Education Car Parks.
Parking is not permitted on the course. Please obey all signage. Tag and tow will be in effect.
Taxis and Private Shuttles
Due to the event road closures, all taxis and private shuttles will drop off and pick up from the Northern Alberta Jubilee north ground parking lot near 87 Avenue and 115 Street. All guests may transfer to the Health Sciences LRT Station Circuit to access Hawrelak Park.
Park Access
William Hawrelak Park will be closed to vehicles from Friday, August 29 to Monday, September 1 inclusive.
Emily Murphy Park will be closed to vehicles for the duration of the event. The Emily Murphy Park boat launch will also be closed.
Why not ride your bike to Hawrelak Park? Public bike racks will be set up in the park. Spectators can stay in the park to watch the action, or venture out on the bicycle and running course to get a closer look at their favourite triathletes.

Capital Power Triathlon Live Site in Churchill Square
The Capital Power Triathlon Live Site in Sir Winston Churchill Square will offer fun and festivities for people of all ages, including a kids’ zone, beer tent, live bands and plenty of food and entertainment for the entire family. Admission is free.
August 25 to 28, 11 a.m. – 7 p.m.
August 29 to 30, 8 – 11 p.m. Join the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra as they present a special concert featuring Disney’s most famous movies scores at Symphony in The City.
On Friday, August 29, between 8:30 a.m. and 3 p.m., the only access to Victoria Golf Course and Driving Range will be along River Valley Road westbound.
Saturday, August 30 to Monday, September 1, River Valley Road will be closed in both directions for part of each day. A complimentary park and ride shuttle between Telus Field and Victoria Golf Course will be available. Please park at Telus Field and use the shuttle during the following days and times:
