EDMONTON – The cause of a blaze that caused over half a million dollars worth of damage to two homes Thursday night is still under investigation.
Firefighters were called to the Grandview area, near 131 Street and 66 Avenue, shortly after 10 p.m.
About 24 firefighters from six units were initially called to battle the blaze.
The back of the house was fully engulfed in flames when crews arrived, so two additional crews and a tanker were called in to assist.
Laura Ruddock with Edmonton Fire Rescue Services says the homeowners were home at the time of the fire and were able to safely make it out of the building.
Ruddock says the home experienced “severe fire damage.” Siding on a neighbouring home was also damaged in the blaze.
The total damage estimate is $550,000 — $500,000 to the initial home, and $50,000 to the neighbouring residence.
The fire was under control by 10:50 p.m., but crews remained on scene to put out hot spots.
Shortly before 11 p.m., residents of the home could be seen carrying artwork out of the front door.
No one was injured in the fire.
