TORONTO – Residents of Phoenix battled rain and winds as a monsoon rolled through the city Tuesday.
Media reports in the area claimed that six people had to be rescued from their vehicles after they became stranded in floodwaters.

Monsoons occur when there is a reversal of wind patterns over a particular area. Typically, they produce thunderstorms and heavy rains. However, they can also create dust storms as strong winds push ahead across dry areas.
The monsoon also delayed flights at the Sky Harbor Airport and knocked out power to thousands of homes.
