EDMONTON – The CRTC has hit the Alberta Federation of Labour with a hefty fine for violating its Unsolicited Telecommunications rules.

The CRTC found the AFL made unsolicited robocalls that broke its rules.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

The CRTC said the messages were in violation because they didn’t provide contact information.

The commission started the investigation after receiving complaints from residents.

The AFL agreed to stop with the telemarketing practice and help promote awareness of the rules.

The AFL represents 160,000 workers in Alberta.
