VANCOUVER – A campground and recreation site north of Squamish remains closed due to the presence of bears in the area.
Anderson Beach Recreation Site has been closed since Aug. 2. A grizzly bear and a black bear sow with two cubs have been seen in the area and were attracted by human food and garbage.

The Ministry of Forests, Lands and Natural Resource Operations says the site needs to be free of attractants for some time or the bears will start to permanently associate the site with food. Signs have been posted in the area and the site will remain closed until recreation officers have confirmed the bears have moved along.
In July a 600 lb grizzly bear was trapped near Squamish and then relocated to an unknown destination.
