Flights cancelled from YVR to Hawaii as 2 hurricanes approach the islands

VANCOUVER – Two large hurricanes are heading straight for Hawaii tonight.

Hilo, Hawaii, is bracing for Hurricane Iselle, which will hit first, possibly as early as tonight. That will be followed by Hurricane Julio, which is expected to pass just north of the islands over the weekend.

This will be the first time in more than 20 years that hurricanes are expected to make direct landfall in that area.

Some airlines flying out of Vancouver International Airport are already rescheduling flights to avoid the storms.

A number of WestJet flights to Honolulu and Maui were cancelled today but the Air Canada flight left for Honolulu left a little late at 3:45 p.m.

Korean Air also cancelled their flight to Honolulu.

WestJet says they will likely keep their flights on schedule on Friday but that could change as the weather develops.
