Big trucks to stay on major New Westminster roads

TransLink has rejected a request from New Westminster to ban large trucks from three major streets.

They wanted truck traffic removed from Eighth Avenue, Columbia Street and Royal Avenue.

Residents first started complaining about the increased traffic last year, after some truckers made adjustments to their routes once tolling on the Port Mann bridge began.

However, TransLink denied the request. They say that diverting the traffic from New Westminster would simply cause more problems along other arterial routes.

New Westminster says the decision isn’t fair to local residents, and will continue to advocate for a new, four-lane tolled replacement to the Pattullo bridge.
