VANCOUVER – Port Moody-Coquitlam MLA and former BC Minister of Labour Iain Black is leaving his job with the BC government.

Black is expected to announce later this afternoon that he is stepping down. He will be shifting over to the private sector and joining the Vancouver Board of Trade as President and CEO. 

 

“I am thrilled with the opportunity to lead the Vancouver Board of Trade into its second 125 years, and to start a new chapter in my career with such a historic and respected organization,” said Black in a statement.

Black was appointed Parliamentary Secretary for Public Transportation to the Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure in March. Before then, he served a brief stint as the province’s Minister of Labour.

He was elected to represent the riding of Port Moody-Coquitlam in 2009.

This is the second high-profile Liberal resignation since last week.

On Friday, BC Attorney General Barry Penner resigned his post saying he is quitting politics to spend more time with his family.
