SASKATOON – A man Saskatoon police dubbed an “escape artist” was recaptured after he managed to escape from custody while handcuffed in the back of a patrol car.
It started when police were alerted to a break and enter at a home in the 3700-block of Diefenbaker Drive around 3 p.m. Sunday.
A citizen had spotted a man brandishing a shovel breaking into the home.

Arriving officers caught the man red-handed coming out of a side door carrying a number of electronic items and jewelry.
He was arrested and placed in the back of a patrol car.
While officers were examining the crime scene, the 31-year-old man removed a handcuff and escaped from the patrol car.
The suspect was recaptured after a short foot chase.
He is now facing a number of charges including break and enter, possession of break-in tools and escaping lawful custody.
They unnamed man is scheduled to be in Saskatoon provincial court Monday morning.
