Man rescued from recycling truck after falling asleep in dumpster

TORONTO – A San Francisco man is lucky to be alive after falling asleep in a dumpster and waking up in the back of a recycling truck.

“I heard him banging on the side of the truck,” Mike Jones, truck driver, told CBS.

After hearing the banging, Jones drove the recycling truck to a local fire station.

Firefighters told the news station the man had been partially crushed by the truck’s compactor but suffered only minor injuries.

Officials told NBC News the man wouldn’t be alive today if wasn’t for the quick actions of the truck driver.

“If he hadn’t heard him, he would have been trapped in that all day long and may have died,” Battalion Chief Kevin Smith said. “So he is a hero. He saved his life.”

After the man was freed from the truck, Jones reportedly finished his route before calling it a day.
